Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

Title: Twilight
Author:
Stephenie Meyer
# pages: 498
ISBN #: 0-316-01584-9
Genre: YA paranormal romance
Challenge(s): Casual Reading Challenge; Book around the States (WA)

First Sentence: I’d never given much thought to how I would die—though I’d had reason enough in the last few months—but even if I had, I would not have imagined it like this.

Setting: Forks, WA

Cover blurb: About three things I was absolutely positive: First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him—and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be—that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

Reason for Reading: October 2007 young adult pick of the Bookcrossing Book Club http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BookCrossing_Reading_Group/?yguid=225391634

Random Thoughts: When Bella Swan’s mother remarries, she moves to Forks, WA to live with her dad, Charlie. The constant cloud cover and drizzle in Forks almost do her in, just like they did her mother, until she meets a boy who is perfect in every way. Or is he? As Bella learns more about Edward’s way of life, she begins to see that, sometimes, family is what you make it and that living forever can get old.

One thing that really bothered me, though—how will Edward and his family remain in Forks? Won’t some of the locals start asking questions when it’s obvious that the good doctor and his “children” never get any older?

This is not a book I would have picked on my own, but I liked it well enough. This is the first vampire book I’ve read (with the exception of the original Dracula, in college). While I found this book enjoyable, I haven’t decided whether I’ll continue to read this series or not. I am considering reading Anne Rice’s vampire series, though (although her witch series appeals to me more).

Favorite scene: When Edward shows Bella what happens to vampires when they go out into the sun.
