Book Awards III Challenge

bookawards3-300x168.BkAxiXeH3OqF.jpg

I’m working on finishing up the Book Awards II challenge right now. I’m about halfway through the last book -- The White White Tiger by Aravind Adiga. It’s great so far. I’ve also just finished up two other award winners, Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro and The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz. These books are SOOO different, but I’d highly recommended both of them. I’ll be back with full reviews of these three shortly. But for now, Michelle from 1 More Chapter is starting the third book awards challenge. Click here for more information or if you want to sign up, too.

The Book Awards III Challenge is only going to last from July 1, 2009 to December 1, 2009. That’s 5 months. The challenge is to read 5 books that have won 5 different awards during that time period. I will pick 5 award winners from the list below (the ones in red I already own so I really should read 5 of those. We’ll see how that works out...):

  1. Suite Française by Irène Némirovsky (Prix Renaudot)
  2. The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon (Pulitzer 2001) - on the New Classics Challenge list OR Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell (1937 Pulitzer)
  3. Atonement by Ian McEwan (2002 National Book Critics Circle Award) - on the New Classics Challenge list
  4. In America by Susan Sontag (2000 National Book Award)
  5. American Gods by Neil Gaiman (2001 Bram Stoker Award and 2002 Hugo Award)
  6. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman (2009 Newbery Award)
  7. Ender’s Shadow by Orson Scott Card (2000 Alex Award) OR Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer (1998 Alex Award)
  8. What the Dead Know by Laura Lippman (2008 Anthony Award) OR Every Secret Thing by Laura Lippman (2004 Anthony Award)
  9. Down River by John Hart (2008 Edgar Award)
  10. The Yiddish Policemen's Union by Michael Chabon (2008 Hugo Award and 2007 Nebula Award)
  11. A book by Doris Lessing (2007 Nobel Prize Winner) OR a book by John Steinbeck (1962 Nobel Prize winner)
  12. Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta (2009 Printz Award)
  13. Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Gilbert (2007 Royal Society Prize)
