Seafaring Challenge

Christina is hosting a neat book challenge all about ships, boats, and the sea. Some of my favorite things! I love to sail, scuba dive, and learn about sea creatures. Sometimes, I like to read about these things, too ;>).

For the Seafaring Challenge, the idea is to read 4 books (at least one of which is a classic) about naval officers, pirates, buried treasure, U-Boats, submarines, sailors, boats, ships, sailing, etc. between Nov. 1, 2007 and Jan. 31, 2008. Christina's come up with some really cute titles for people who participate in the challenge. Everyone starts out as Midshipmen (officers-in-training). Read one book and you move up in rank to a Lieutenant. Two books and you're a Captain. Read a third book that is a classic and you become a Commadore. With the fourth book, you're promoted to an Admiral. Great idea, Christina!

Of course, I have to shoot for the highest rank :>). So these are the books I've chosen:

1. Adrift by Steven Callahan - about a man who spent 76 days lost at sea after his sailboat sank
2. The Secret Life of Lobsters by Trevor Corson - about lobster fishermen and their lives
3. Rip Tide by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child - a thriller about buried treasure
4. Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson

The best thing about this challenge is that all of these books have been sitting on my TBR shelf for forever! Time to read 'em and make room for more!
