Weekly Geeks #10 - Magazines

This weeks Weekly Geek theme is to talk about the magazines we read. Dewey came up with a little magazine meme to keep things simple, too. Thanks, Dewey!

1. Name of magazine. National Geographic
2. Do you subscribe or just buy it now and then
? My husband's family subscribes for me as a Christmas present every year ;>).
3. What’s your favorite regular feature in the magazine? I love the entire magazine, but I really like the photos. They are to die for!
4. What do you think your interest in this magazine say
s about you? I'm a science geek ;>).
5. How long have you
been reading this magazine? Uh...years...many, many of them.
6. Is there any
unique or quirky aspect to the magazine that keeps you reading? Nothing quirky, but I find their articles well researched and written and, as I've mentioned, their photographers are something special.

1. Name of magazine. Science Illustrated
2. Do you subscribe or just b
uy it now and then? Subscribe.
3. What’s your favorite regular feature in the magazine?
This is another fantastic science magazines with wonderful pictures.
4. What do you think your interest in this magazine says about you?
Again, looking for a science geek? You found her ;>). 5. How long have you been reading this magazine? Since its first issue the beginning of this year.
6. Is there any unique or quirky aspect to the magazine that keeps you reading? The reporters do a great job at explaining current scientific research for a lay audience. They also tend to pick up on the weird and wacky of the science world, which I enjoy.

1. Name of magazine. Bookmarks magazine.
2. Do you subscribe or just buy it now and then?
I don't subscribe (yet), but I pick it up every other month as soon as it comes out.
3. What’s your favorite regular feature in the magazine?
The Coming Soon and the Have You Read are my favorites.
4. What do you think your interest in this magazine says about you?
Uh...book geek ;>).
5. How long have you been reading this
magazine? About a year.
6. Is there any unique or quirky aspect to the magazine that keeps you reading?
It's the only general book magazine I can find.

1. Name of m
agazine. Mental Floss
2. Do you subscribe or just buy it now and then?
I buy it when I buy Bookmarks. They are both bi-monthly magazines and I buy them both every other month.
3. What do you
think your interest in this magazine says about you? I like to learn about quirky, weird, random things.
4. How long have you been reading this magazine?
About a year.
5. Is there any unique or quirky aspect to the magazine
that keeps you reading? The whole strange, irreverent thing ;>).

1. Name of magazine. Cooking Light
2. Do you subscribe or just buy it now and then? Subscribe.
3. What’s your favorite regular feature in the magazine? I like their Inspired Vegetarian recipes and the Dinner Tonight recipes (quick and easy ones ;>)).
4. What do you think your interest in this magazine says about you? I like yummy food that might not kill me prematurely.
5. How long have you been reading this magazine? Years and years.
6. Is there any unique or quirky aspect to the magazine that keeps you reading? Cooking Light seems to be the only magazine with healthy recipes that don't taste horrible. I'm almost always happy with the recipes I make out of the magazine (as long as I stay away from recipes that have ingredients I *know* I don't like - sometimes the pictures are so pretty I'll try to make these recipes anyway, but that rarely works out ;>)).

I used to pick up the Bookmarks magazine and really enjoyed it. I have lately been contemplating subscribing to a magazine (I have been taking a few years off subscriptions to get caught up with the magazines I had around). I will have to look at this one again.
