First sentence:

“I want you to open the door for me.”

What is it all about? This is a great mystery centered on the New York Public Library and old, rare books and maps.

Random thoughts: I really enjoyed reading about the rooms of the NYPL and the stacks of books they have underground. The book also gives the history on some of Manhattans old, interesting buildings. The mystery was well plotted and kept me guessing until the end. All and all, an excellent book.

This is the first book I’ve read by Linda Fairstein, but it is the 11th book to feature the character Alexandra Cooper. There was some back story that I’m sure I missed, but it didn’t detract from the story. But now I’ll be looking for Linda Fairstein’s backlist because I want to read more about how the the relationships between Alexandra, Mike, and Mercer, the detectives assigned to the case, developed over time.

Fun tidbits:
  1. Final Jeopardy
  2. Likely to Die
  3. Cold Hit
  4. The Deadhouse
  5. The Bone Vault
  6. The Kills
  7. Entombed
  8. Death Dance
  9. Bad Blood
  10. Killer Heat
Recommended for readers who like: authors like Patricia Cornwell and Kathy Reichs. And for readers who like to read books about books.

Thanks for sharing the list of books by this author as I hate starting in the middle of a series. I'll have to give the first book a try!
